quote

"I fought tonight. It felt great. I am frightened of never doing that again and being paralyzed and dying but I’m getting closer to being okay with it. It is weird no matter how much I think about it. Anyway, there are a lot of people who are with me. That’s pretty cool. So this is for all of you. Thanks everyone."

text

Doug wrote this today and I think it's quite beautiful

A Poets Guide to Poetry (with apologies to Mary Kinzie)

It starts with a desire

to become lost

in the thick impasto

of a painting.

You slump in the grey

of the cleaners

while the socks tumble

dry, waiting.

Fingers hunger over

pen points

and the mind sighs

onto a line,

wanting to lean on

window seats

while a chin wrestles

into the knob

of a palm. Words sweep

over cities

but drop to the old

curb smudged

with flat dead pieces

of blacked gum:

These are the metaphors

that aren’t

yours—a house bleeds,

children turn

into birds, the radiator

chants and—yet

a buzzer screams

and the brain

remembers the spin

cycle of ideas

behind the glass,

the change

left on the counter.

You return.

Then, a flutter

of hands,

a shout, the foam

dribbles

in the corner

of a mouth,

You pat your jeans,

recalling

the final line! Vessels

pulse close

to skin, breaths become

big stones,

You quicken, you bend

forward

You write that word

and then

you poke through

a hole

at the bottom of your

pocket.

quote

"

The next three weeks of my life
Will be completely
Insane.

I might not see much of you guys.

Thanks everyone for listening. I’ll be back soon.
